About square dance

How square dance works

The caller speaks or sings the names of the calls, and the dancers follow them to the music. You learn the moves together, and you don’t need a regular dance partner.

The music keeps you moving while the caller chooses the next call.

Movement

Steps and turns

You change direction and position as you follow the calls.

Community

You dance as a group

Everyone has a part in making the calls work. You listen to the caller and keep an eye on the people dancing with you.

Hi, I’m Philipp.

I first tried calling during my own class in 1998. I’ve been a regular club caller since 2007, and I also teach classes and call at specials and jamborees across Europe, from Mainstream to C2.

I coach other callers as a CALLERLAB Accredited Caller Coach.
